我們在進行電壓測試時，通常透過電壓探棒直接接觸遠端ASIC或GPU元件的Pin並直接連接到示波器得到Power Rail上的電壓值。這種測量方式提供的結果非常全面，不僅包含了由於電流流經電阻而產生的直流電壓降DC IR Drop，還能夠清晰地顯示出電壓漣波Ripple的情況，即電壓值隨時間變化的波動。這些數據對於評估電源系統的穩定性和性能至關重要。
還記得我們在【PI 思維升級】如何有效降低DC IR Drop?你不可不知Remote Sense的陷阱！與【PI 全局視野】AI時代，決戰功耗巨獸：別只看眼圖！深入電源完整性DC壓降與AC漣波，打造訊號完整性SI的穩固基石講過，晶片的電壓是一個狹窄的範圍，規格會像是下表這樣，目前最常見的應該是0.8V +/- 3%，也就是單邊電壓震盪範圍落在24mV，Peak-Peak落在48mV，只要落在這範圍，我們就可以認定晶片可以正常運作。
一個常見的誤解是將晶片的電壓規格範圍直接視為分析或模擬的唯一依據，例如直接將3%的電壓範圍全部指定為DC IR Drop的Tolerance，而完全忽略了Ripple的存在和影響。這種簡化的做法雖然在初步分析時看似方便，但實際上可能導致嚴重的後果。當系統電源實際運行時，若運氣不佳，工程師可能會在實驗室中花費大量寶貴的時間Debug，甚至可能導致整個專案Fail，這對於開發進度和成本都有很大的風險。
而電源系統中的AC成分或稱為Ripple的控制比起DC IR Drop要困難得多，主要原因在於目前市面上還沒有模擬軟體能夠提供與實際電路相比足夠準確的結果。面對這種技術挑戰，我們能做的是將DC IR Drop控制在較低的水平，為AC Ripple預留更多Margin。這樣的概念能夠確保系統電源在各種工作條件下的穩定性和可靠性，同時也為未來可能的系統升級或負載增加提供了更大的靈活性。
我們已經在【PI 思維升級】如何有效降低DC IR Drop?你不可不知Remote Sense的陷阱！提過DC IR Drop，也概括提到現在GPU/ASIC變得很大顆之後，就算我們用Remote sense做動態式電壓調整，也還是會遇到Pin-Pin電壓過大使得晶片工作失效的挑戰。
而Ripple呢？
Voltage Regulator Module (VRM)
現在主流的系統DC-DC供電架構主要可分為兩大類型，每種類型都有其特定的應用場景和技術特點：
- 降壓形式(Buck Converter)：這種轉換器的主要功能是將較高的輸入電壓有效地降低至較低的穩定輸出電壓。在傳統伺服器中，這通常意味著將12V電壓降低；而在AI資料中心，目前的趨勢在往48V或54V的輸入電壓走，再透過Buck Converter轉換為ASIC或GPU所需的低電壓，例如0.8V、1.2V或3.3V等。這種降壓過程勢必會帶來損耗，因此需求是必須高效進行，以減少能量損失並確保供電的穩定性。
- 升壓形式(Boost Converter)：與降壓形式相反，升壓轉換器的功能是將低電壓提升至較高的電壓水平。這種類型的轉換器在特定應用中非常重要，如LED照明系統需要較高的驅動電壓，或是USB供電電路需要在低電源條件下提供標準化的輸出電壓。升壓轉換器通過能量存儲和釋放的精確控制來實現電壓的提升。
在現代資料中心的設計和運營中，工程師們更多地專注於降壓電路的優化和實現，這是因為大多數高性能計算元件如處理器和加速器都需要低電壓高電流的供電。為了便於管理和優化這些電源系統，我們通常將每個獨立的電源轉換單元稱為負載點(Point of Load, PoL)，這些PoL分布在整個系統中，盡可能靠近需要供電的元件，以減少電力傳輸損耗和確保電壓穩定性。
切換式電源Switching Regulator
任何的降壓式電源轉換器都稱作Buck Converter，常見的有LDO與切換式電源(Switching Regulator)。而電壓Ripple通常發生在切換式電源。
簡單介紹切換式電源，有以下的優點：
- 極高的電源轉換效率：這是最壓倒性的優點，原理是”能量轉移”而非”能量消耗”，所以在理論上幾乎沒有能量損失，些微的損失來自於切換損失(Switching Loss)與導通損失(Conduction Loss)。
- 跨幅度的電壓轉換：有別於LDO這種這種線性穩壓器，切換式電源的電壓轉換範圍極大，在伺服器領域經常看見12V轉0.8V的電壓轉換，且轉換效率仍可高達95%。
- 大電流輸出：由於不像線性穩壓器會有大量熱的累積，切換式電源可以提供高電流的輸出，常常一個Power Stage就可以40-50A起跳(理論值通常可達80-90A)。
缺點也蠻明顯，所謂切換，表示電路輸出會有切換Ripple，這個Ripple就是我們在ASIC/GPU端利用示波器測量電源時會得到的結果。
Switching Regulator工作原理簡介
切換式電源的輸出端其實很像反向器，透過High-Side MOS與Low-Side MOS組成，而兩個MOS的閘極也就是控制訊號PWM，會控制兩個MOS的開關時間，Higi-Side MOS會接到系統電源，Low-Side MOS則接到GND。當High-Side MOS打開時，Low-Side MOS會關閉，反之亦然。High-Side MOS開的時間越短，則電壓可以降的越多。

Ton是High-Side MOS開啟的時間，而Ttotal則是一個完整的PWM開關週期時間，可以透過PWM頻率的倒數來換算。
意思是當Duty Cycle越短，電壓的跨幅度就越大。
(讓各位思考一下，這種瞬間電壓跨幅度很大，時間又很短，是不是很像Spike?這種Spike如果發生，會有什麼Side-Effect?)
切換式電源產生電壓Ripple
切換式電源在SW這個節點上會有相當劇烈的電流變化，所以很多Power設計相關的Design Guide都會要求這個節點附近都要清空100mil以上，甚至還有SW Node下方或是上方的空間都要清空，可見大家都被這個骯髒的電流震盪給嚇到。
我們可以透過以下公式計算這個電流值，只有兩個參數我們是可以做調整的：
- Choke的電感值：選大電感可以有較低的電流變化，但是…電感真的很大顆…會塞不下喔
- 切換頻率：調大可以降低電流變化，但是卻也帶來較大的切換損耗，導致電源轉換效率降低
在Choke後面的Vout位置量測到的電壓可以由這公式來等效，簡單講就是將時變電流，與VRM端Bulk電容的ESR相乘，就可以得到時變電壓，也就是電壓Ripple。所以知道為什麼需要加一堆電容在VRM輸出端了吧？答案就是需要更多的電容並聯，得到較低的ESR，電壓輸出自然就會更穩定！
VRM輸出端電容上的電壓波形理想上應該會長類似這樣：
使用濾波器滿足低雜訊電壓軌的需求
在某些對電源純淨度有嚴格要求的Power rail上，僅僅透過增加VRM輸出端的電容數量來降低ESR很難達到理想的雜訊抑制效果，你不會想要放幾百顆電容在VRM輸出端。特別是在高頻寬、低雜訊要求的關鍵應用場景中，即使堆積了大量的輸出電容，所獲得的改善效果仍然有限。此時，我們可以添加專門設計的濾波器電路。這些濾波器可以針對特定頻率範圍的雜訊進行有效抑制，大幅提升電源品質，同時還能降低元件數量和PCB面積的需求，達到更加理想的輸出雜訊抑制效果！
一般PI型濾波器由電容-電感-電容組成，問題來了，要多少電容多少電感？
這就得透過模擬軟體去找尋在這個系統上最適當的數值搭配，如下圖，最初的設計參考了廠商給的Design Guide，經由測量發現電壓雜訊很大，雖說我們可以在實驗室裡rework就可以找出優化方向，但是每次這樣做也是很耗時間…
所以我們可以嘗試著透過模擬來做這件事，雖說要拿到真正的切換式電源模型不太容易，但我們已經知道它的電路架構，就可以在電路軟體裡自己建起來，再把電容模型帶進去一起跑模擬，發現實際優化後的測試與模擬的趨勢蠻吻合的。
濾波器的增益圖(Gain)，透過10KHz-1MHz的增益抑制，可以有效改善漣波：
